Morning Routines

Ms. Paintbrush Horse stretched her arms above her silver mane as morning sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Paintbrush Penthouse. The city of Horseshoe Metropolis sprawled below her, bustling with humans and humanoid animals starting their day.

She grabbed her giant paintbrush from its stand and twirled it expertly between her black-gloved fingers. "Time for morning patrol," she announced to herself, adjusting her blue supersuit.

Her phone buzzed on the marble counter. A text from Ms. Cat: "Emergency meeting at the art museum! Something strange is happening!"

Another message popped up from Ms. Sheep: "The gallery downtown looks... different. Can't explain it. Meet us there?"

Ms. Paintbrush Horse frowned. Her friends sounded worried, which was unusual. She secured her paintbrush to her back and headed toward the balcony. Whatever was happening, her friends needed her.

The morning breeze ruffled her mane as she prepared to take flight.

The Gray Morning

Ms. Paintbrush Horse soared through the morning sky, her silver mane flowing behind her. The city below looked strange—something was definitely wrong. Buildings that should have been red brick appeared dull gray. The green park trees looked like black and white photographs.

She landed outside the Horseshoe Art Museum where Ms. Cat waited on the steps. The orange tabby humanoid wore a bright yellow dress, but even her vibrant fur seemed faded.

"Thank goodness you're here!" Ms. Cat exclaimed, her green eyes wide with worry. "Look at this!"

She pointed to a massive painting visible through the museum's glass doors. The famous rainbow masterpiece that usually burst with every color imaginable was completely gray.

"It started an hour ago," Ms. Cat explained. "Colors are draining from everything—art, buildings, even flowers. Ms. Sheep called from downtown. The same thing is happening there."

Ms. Paintbrush Horse gripped her giant paintbrush tighter. "This isn't natural. Someone or something is stealing colors from our entire city."
