Island Belly Trouble
Listen to audiobook
Sweet Dreams and Sunny Mornings
Cecily stretched in her king-sized bed, sunlight streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows of her family's island home. The modern house hummed quietly around her, all sleek lines and living walls covered in trailing vines.
"Mom? Dad?" she called, padding barefoot across the cool marble floors.
Silence echoed back. A note on the granite kitchen counter caught her eye: "Emergency business trip - back in three days. Order whatever you want! Love, Mom & Dad."
Cecily grinned and grabbed her phone. Her fingers danced across the delivery app screen - chocolate bars, gummy bears, ice cream sandwiches, cookies, candy necklaces, marshmallows, cake pops, and rainbow sprinkles.
"This is going to be the best vacation ever," she whispered, adding caramel popcorn to her cart.
The doorbell rang an hour later. Box after box of sweet treasures piled up on her doorstep. Cecily dragged them inside, already unwrapping a chocolate bar.
Three hours later, surrounded by empty wrappers, she felt wonderfully satisfied.
Morning Surprises
Cecily woke up feeling strange. Her pajama top stretched tight across her middle, and when she looked down, her eyes widened in shock.
"What happened to me?" she gasped.
Her belly had grown enormous overnight - round and firm like a beach ball. She could barely see her feet past the huge curve of her stomach.
Panicking, she grabbed her phone and searched for doctors. Dr. Martinez's clinic popped up first with same-day appointments available.
Twenty minutes later, she sat in the sterile white office, trying to hide behind a magazine.
"Fascinating case," Dr. Martinez murmured, wheeling over a peculiar machine covered in blinking lights and tubes. "This should help reduce the swelling."
The machine hummed to life. Instead of shrinking, Cecily watched in horror as her belly expanded even more. Now it was as massive as the huge couch pillows in her living room.
"Wait, that's not—" she started.
"Emergency call, must run!" Dr. Martinez rushed out, leaving her alone.
Cecily stared at her impossibly swollen middle. Her parents would be home any minute.
