An Ordinary Morning

The sun had just begun its climb over the horizon, spilling golden rays over Betsy's Hotel Lodge. Darlene, a humanoid grey boar with soft brown hair, stretched in her favorite purple and blue dress. She caught sight of Betsy, her humanoid cow wife in a sunny yellow dress, tidying up by the pond.

"Morning, Bets! Busy already, I see?" Darlene hollered, skipping over the colorful flowers dotting their backyard.

Betsy turned, a playful glint in her blue eyes. "Morning, Dar! There's always something to do. Did you know the mechanical forest's been acting odd lately? Machines behaving like they've got minds of their own."

Darlene raised an eyebrow, a smile creeping across her face. "Sounds like a perfect adventure, don't you think?"

"Absolutely! Let me just grab my pack," Darlene replied, her eyes sparkling with the thrill of the upcoming challenge.

Within moments, the duo was on their way, the forest's entrance a mere stroll from their lodge. The path was lined with intricate wildflowers, their petals seemingly crafted from twisting metal and humming softly.

As they ventured deeper, a rusty creak echoed above them. Darlene looked up, spotting a humanoid mechanical owl perched on a branch, its eyes glowing a soft blue.

"You must be the ones disturbing the mechanical forest," the owl hooted, its voice metallic yet surprisingly soothing.

Betsy tilted her head. "Disturbing? We're here because it's been acting up on its own. Who are you?"

"I am Orion, the keeper of this realm," the owl responded, with a hint of mischief in his tone. "Care to follow? You'll need more than your wits in here." Without waiting for an answer, Orion took off, heading deeper into the forest.

Darlene and Betsy exchanged glances, curiosity piqued. "After you, Dar," Betsy said with a wink, nudging her partner forward.

Their adventure in the mechanical forest had begun.
