The Curious Case of the Giant Cucumber
Listen to audiobook
Whispers from Big Town
Big Town buzzed with energy as people hurried through the streets beneath sky-high towers that scraped the clouds. Among the crowd, Cho walked briskly, his messy black hair bouncing with each step. He felt an odd tingling in the air; today felt different.
Just as he turned the corner, he halted in his tracks. There, in the middle of the street, was the biggest cucumber Cho had ever seen.
"Whoa," Cho muttered under his breath. He knelt down, carefully observing its green, warty surface.
"Hey, Maya! Come look at this!" Cho shouted, waving at a nearby friend.
Maya, a girl with curly brown hair, green eyes, and a bright yellow dress, approached with curiosity. "What is that?"
"It's a cucumber—an enormous one!" Cho answered, clearly fascinated.
"How did it get here?" Maya wondered aloud, scribbling in her small purple notebook.
"I don't know," said Cho, adjusting his small backpack. "But we should find out."
And just like that, their day took an unexpected turn.
A Peculiar Discovery
Cho and Maya circled the enormous cucumber, pondering their next move. “How did this get here?” Maya repeated, tapping her pencil on her small purple notebook. They decided to ask locals if anyone saw anything unusual. They strolled through the streets, stopping by a bustling market. Brightly colored stalls brimmed with fresh fruits and vegetables. An elderly vegetable vendor caught their attention.
“Excuse me, sir,” Cho began, “have you seen anything strange lately?”
The vendor, Mr. Green, rubbed his gray beard thoughtfully. “Last night, I saw a bright light and heard a strange hum by my stall,” he said. Intrigued, Maya jotted it down.
They shared snacks at a nearby park, giggling and feeding pigeons. “This day is getting weirder but fun!” Cho mused. Determined, they set off, knowing their journey had only just begun.
