The Enigma of the Scarlet Telescope
Listen to audiobook
Through the Ivory Lens
In the heart of the Woodland Kingdom stood the grand old Ivory Tree Tower, a vine-clad monument to forgotten days. Rachel, the humanoid rhino with her sturdy build and caring countenance, was busy rummaging through the dusty attic. Her teal dress swayed delicately as she moved boxes around.
"Clarice, where did we put Grandpa's old camera?" she asked, her voice carrying a note of nostalgia.
Clarice, the nimble humanoid squirrel, flicked her bushy tail and scanned the cluttered space while adjusting her green dress. "I think it’s by that old chest," she responded.
But as they moved a few boxes, an unexpected find caught their eye – a mysterious scarlet telescope gleaming under layers of dust.
Through the Looking Glass
"Rachel, is this... a telescope?" Clarice's eyes widened as she wiped away the dust, revealing the crimson hue of the object. Her tail twitched with excitement. "But why is it scarlet?"
Rachel's massive form loomed over the tiny squirrel. "Only one way to find out," she mused, placing the delicate instrument on a wooden crate. She fiddled with the knobs, adjusting them until the lenses aligned perfectly.
Suddenly, the telescope sparked with life, casting a shimmering red beam through the attic. It projected a spectral image on the closest wall. Both friends gasped.
It was a celestial map dotted with stars and a single blinking light in the corner. "What's that blinking light?" Rachel asked, more to herself.
"It looks like some kind of distress signal," Clarice suggested, her face becoming serious as she realized the significance.
Without hesitation, Rachel moved the instrument to the nearest window. "Let's see where it's pointing," she decided, positioning them to look through the dusty panes out towards the endless horizon.
As the two friends peered through the glass, the blinking light grew clearer, more urgent. But neither knew that far below, in the lurking shadows of the tower's base, a pair of eyes watched their every move.
