The Mystery of the Gleaming Telescope
Listen to audiobook
Unexpected Discovery
Mason Jupiter sat at his usual corner in the middle school science room, his brown eyes twinkling behind the round frames of his glasses. On his sweater, the solar system’s planets spun in a galactic dance, as he sketched a diagram of Saturn.
“Hey, space-boy,” his friend Leo chuckled, tossing a paper airplane across the table.
“Just working on my project for the winter party,” Mason replied, grinning.
A sudden whirring noise distracted him. Tilting his head, he spotted an old, gleaming telescope in the dusty corner.
“Where did you come from?” he wondered aloud.
An adventure had just begun, and little did Mason know, the cosmos itself might hold the answer.
The Gleaming Whisper
The snow outside had only begun its gentle descent, swirling in vast cosmic patterns against the windows. Mason and Leo, driven by curiosity about the mysterious telescope, shuffled towards it.
"It looks pretty old," Leo remarked, brushing dust off its brass surface.
As Mason peered through the eyepiece, he spotted something unusual—a faint glow deep within the cosmos.
"Do you see that?" Mason's voice was a mix of excitement and bewilderment.
"It's like a star... but different," Leo added, scratching his head.
Suddenly, the door creaked open, and Mr. Briggs, the school's elderly janitor, poked his head inside. His eyes lingered on the telescope, his expression a tinge too interested.
"You lads might want to be careful with that," Mr. Briggs warned, his voice robust with a peculiar edge.
The boys exchanged a glance.
"Let's take it home," Mason whispered. "Piece by piece, we can figure out what makes it so unique."
Leo hesitated, glancing at the swirling snowstorm outside. "But the party's tomorrow, and the snow's picking up."
Mason nodded, contemplating the glow which still seemed to pulse behind the glass. There was more to this telescope, beyond the winter party distractions, beyond the snowstorm, something they both could feel.
