The Mystery of the Vanishing Vegetables
Listen to audiobook
Farm Frights
Corn Ear Farm bustled with the familiar sounds of morning. As the scent of fresh hay mingled with the crisp air, Inspector Burrow stretched his paws. Beside him, Clara, the nimble squirrel, balanced on a fence post, tail flicking playfully.
“Well, Clara,” Burrow said with a twinkle in his eye, “shall we start our rounds?”
Before Clara could reply, Farmer Green appeared, frowning.
“Mornin'!” Burrow called. “Everything alright?”
“Strangest thing,” Farmer Green mumbled, scratching his head. “Cabbages gone! Just vanished!”
Clara’s eyes widened. “Overnight?”
“Not a leaf left!” Farmer Green exclaimed.
Burrow leaned forward, intrigued. “We must look into this, Clara. Seems we have a mystery on our paws!”
Without hesitation, the duo set off, noses twitching with curiosity, ready to unravel the mystery of the vanishing vegetables.
The farm seemed more mysterious than ever, with secrets waiting in every row.
The Buried Clue
The sun glimmered through rustling leaves as Burrow and Clara resumed their rounds on Corn Ear Farm. Burrow, the sharp-eyed badger, paused near the cabbage patch, his instinct nudging him toward the overturned soil.
“Look here, Clara,” he said, pointing with a sturdy paw. Clara scampered over, her tail twitching with curiosity.
“Is that a burrow?” she chirped, peering into the mound.
“Indeed. And not just any burrow—there’s something or someone beneath the soil. Underground creatures, perhaps?” Burrow mused aloud.
Before Clara could respond, a flutter of wings caught their attention. Olly, the barn owl, perched above, blinking his large yellow eyes.
“I saw something last night,” Olly hooted pleasantly. “A shimmering figure moved silently through this patch.”
“Shimmering?” asked Clara, excitement glinting in her gaze.
“Indeed, quite peculiar!” Olly said, fluffing his feathers.
Burrow looked thoughtful; this mystery was growing more curious by the minute and the stakes with it.
