Whispers of the Wind

Terry Breeze wandered through the overgrown school garden, the vibrant greenery brushing against her cream-colored dress. Her sandals squished softly in the damp earth, a gentle whisper reminding her of the rain from last night. The garden was her haven, a place of peace and secrets.

"Isn't it just beautiful here, Molly?" Terry asked, eyes twinkling as she smiled at her friend.

Molly, with her ponytail bouncing as she moved, nodded enthusiastically. "It sure is! But—what's that? Something shiny over there," she pointed.

Following Molly's gaze, Terry spotted a gleam beneath a sprawling oak tree. Curiosity dancing in her eyes, she knelt, brushing aside earth and old leaves to reveal an intricately designed key. It was heavy, with leaves and twines carved along its edges.

"Whoa," breathed Molly, wide-eyed. "What's it for, you think?"

Terry felt the key pulse faintly against her palm. "I don't know, but it's important... like the start of something big." She looked up, winds rustling gently through her hair, carrying a strange sort of promise.

As the girls stared at each other, the air tingled slightly around them—a silent whisper of secrets yet to unfold.

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as Terry and Molly waited near the old oak. Having spent the day passing knowing glances, the moment had finally come. "Ready?" Molly asked, her voice a mixture of excitement and apprehension.

"Let's make something useful," Terry replied, her fingers flexing, drawing strength from the earth. Around them, leaves rustled knowingly.

Terry knelt, her palms brushing against the rough soil until a smooth, large piece of wood appeared. With gentle concentration, she shaped its form—an ornate box, perfect for their new key. Patterns emerged on its surface as if guided by whispers of the wind.

"It's beautiful, Terry!" Molly exclaimed. "Will it help us find what the key unlocks?"

"I'm not sure," Terry admitted, securing the key inside. "But grandpa might know. He learned about all sorts of legends."

At school the next day, rumors buzzed of a dragon sighting, making Terry's skin tingle with curiosity. She knew a visit to her grandfather could unravel mysteries untold.
