The Shadow That Wouldn't Dance
Listen to audiobook
A Curious Invitation
Blues the Fox trotted down the winding path, his sky-blue scarf fluttering in the morning breeze. His bright blue eyes sparkled with curiosity as he spotted colorful banners ahead.
"Welcome to Pete's Animal Parade!" called a cheerful voice.
Pete the Cat stood on a wooden stage, his red sneakers gleaming. "Animals march in one by one, and everyone's invited to watch!"
Blues grinned and found a spot near the front. The first animal stepped forward—a tall giraffe with golden spots. But something odd caught Blues' attention. The giraffe's shadow on the ground wasn't copying its movements at all.
While the giraffe lifted its head high, the shadow stayed perfectly still, like it was frozen in place.
When Shadows Have Their Own Ideas
Blues scratched behind his perky ears. "That's very strange," he whispered to himself.
More animals joined the parade line. A cheerful otter bounded forward, clapping her paws together. Her shadow should have been clapping too, but instead it stood with its arms crossed like it was angry.
"Next up, our talented cricket!" Pete the Cat announced from his stage.
The tiny cricket hopped onto a small wooden box and began to chirp a happy tune. Blues watched closely. The cricket's shadow wasn't making music at all. It just sat perfectly still while the real cricket danced and sang.
"Something's definitely wrong here," Blues murmured, his bright blue eyes scanning all the confused shadows around the parade ground.
