The Silver Butterfly Riddle
Listen to audiobook
In a Palace of Silver
Duchess Hilda, barely twelve with a ponytail as tight as her resolve, made a bold leap into freedom. She'd outgrown those drab orphanage walls. With the Duke and Duchess Palace in sight, she cautiously tiptoed into a world she had only dreamed of.
"This place is magnificent," she whispered to herself, eyes twinkling with wonder.
The courtyard welcomed her with open arms, with daisies dancing in the breeze, a stark contrast to her past constraints.
"Daisies never lie," she murmured, stepping lightly, heart racing.
The Midnight Whisper
Duchess Hilda tiptoed through the grand silver entrance, eyes wide at the towering walls twinkling like stars.
A chandelier hung above like a drooping sun, casting sparkles around her. "It's like a dream," she breathed.
Before she could explore further, a voice echoed, "Who's there?"
Hilda turned to see a boy around her age. His tousled hair framed his lively eyes.
"I'm Hilda," she answered, trying not to let her nervousness show.
The boy grinned cheekily. "Prince Oliver, at your service," he said with a sweeping bow.
Hilda giggled. Despite the regal title, there was a playfulness in him she found reassuring.
A cold breeze whispered through the hall, fluttering the edge of a curtain. It made them pause, looking around as if expecting a ghostly presence.
"Strange," Oliver murmured, eyeing the shadowy corners.
"An adventure awaits," Hilda whispered, feeling the electric promise of hidden tales.
