The Simple Melody

Strumming Dreams
Hitomi's fingers danced eagerly over the guitar strings as she sat by the shimmering koi pond in Kyoto's vibrant park. Her long black hair fluttered lightly in the soft breeze, while her bright brown eyes stayed fixed on the guitar. Her heart pulsed in time with the melody that filled the balmy air.
A group of retirees played shogi under a cherry tree nearby, and a jogger trotted past, earphones firmly planted. Yet, Hitomi felt alone in her own world—a world of chords and harmonies. She strummed a simple tune, something that had spontaneously tumbled forth, catching even herself by surprise.
Just then, an older gentleman with striking gray hair approached, looking both wise and gentle. "Wonderful tune,” he commented, admiring her fresh, vibrant notes. "With the right ears listening, it might reach beyond this park."
Hitomi's heart skipped. Could her melody hold such power?
The Unexpected Beat
Hitomi took a deep breath and strummed her guitar again, letting the melody flow through her fingers. The koi pond shimmered behind her, lively and beautiful, the fish a flurry of vibrant colors. Suddenly, she heard a chirping sound coming from a nearby branch.
To her surprise, perched there was a toucan—its plumage a burst of sunset colors, a curious and rare creature in Kyoto. The toucan seemed captivated by Hitomi's melody, its beak opening and closing rhythmically as if trying to sing along.
Hitomi laughed softly, her heart lifting with hope and wonder. She mused to herself, "If a toucan can enjoy my music, maybe others will too!"
In that same moment, across the park, a curious noise erupted—a raccoon had nosed its way into an unattended picnic basket, scattering sandwiches and giggles throughout the park.
Hitomi captured the toucan and raccoon on her phone, ideas buzzing in her mind. Perhaps these quirky moments were her unexpected allies in making her melody heard.
