The Scared Boys and the Magic Scissors
Listen to audiobook
Pink Scissors and Morning Chaos
Yuki adjusted her scissors earrings and smoothed her pink dress as she unlocked the doors to Magical Cuts, the most popular salon in Nakaibito village. Her pink heels clicked across the polished floor as she switched on the lights, making her scissors necklace sparkle.
"Good morning, beautiful day!" she called to her partners, Maki and Yuko, who were already setting up their stations.
Maki, with her purple hair tied in neat braids, arranged her silver tools. "Did you see the notice board this morning?"
Yuko looked up from organizing her blue bottles of shampoo. "Five new appointments. All boys."
"That's wonderful!" Yuki clapped her hands together, her pink nails gleaming. "I love cutting boys' hair. It's always so creative."
Through the window, she spotted five figures shuffling past the salon. Their hair hung long and greasy, covering most of their faces. One boy glanced toward the salon and quickly pulled his friend away from the window.
"Strange," Yuki murmured, watching them disappear around the corner.
The Morning Rush
The salon's front door burst open with such force that Yuki's scissors necklace jingled against her chest. A woman with short black hair stormed in, dragging five boys behind her like a mother duck with very reluctant ducklings.
"Please help us!" the woman gasped. "I'm Mrs. Tanaka from the school. These boys haven't had proper haircuts in months!"
Yuki's pink eyes widened as she recognized the five figures from the window. Their hair hung past their shoulders in greasy tangles. One boy tried to hide behind another, while a third gripped the doorframe with white knuckles.
"No scissors!" squeaked the smallest boy, Ren. "They're scary!"
"We don't want haircuts!" added Riku, his voice muffled by his hair curtain.
Maki stepped forward with her silver scissors gleaming. "Don't worry, we're professionals."
"That's what the last hairdresser said!" Haruto shouted, backing toward the door. "Then he cut off too much!"
Mrs. Tanaka sighed heavily. "The other parents are furious. People keep mistaking these boys for girls because of their long hair."
Yuko blocked the exit with her blue bottles. "Nobody's leaving until we fix this mess."
The boys huddled together like frightened sparrows, their eyes darting between the magical girls' tools.
