The Whisper of Snowflakes
Little Squirrel lived in a warm, snug hollow inside the thick trunk of a towering old tree with her mother. It was a bright winter morning, the first sunbeams glistening across the blanket of snow that carpeted the forest floor. Little Squirrel, her curiosity as lively as ever, cautiously peeked outside.
Her breath formed little puffs of clouds in the chilly air as she scampered into the sparkling snow, her eyes wide and brown, alight with excitement. All around her, the vast forest buzzed with a winter glow; the pine trees adorned in frosty coats seemed to guard the secrets of the woods.
Little Squirrel darted through bushes and beyond tall trees, until she reached the edge of a radiant clearing where the frozen lake glistened like a gem tossed upon the Earth. It was there, beneath the open sky, that she finally noticed it—snowflakes, each one an enchanting design like delicate lace crafted by unseen hands. As they spiraled softly to the ground, she marveled at their distinct patterns and wondered at the magic behind their forms. This forest would yield one of its more tender mysteries yet.
Frosted Companions
Just as Little Squirrel was lost in admiration of the snowflakes, a soft chirp broke the winter silence. It was Benny the blue jay, his feathers a bright splash of color against the white snowscape.
"Hey there, Little Squirrel," chirped Benny, his beady eyes filled with concern. "It's so chilly, and I can't find anything to eat!"
Little Squirrel, always eager to help, bounced up and down. "Let's find something together, Benny! And maybe we'll discover why these snowflakes look so magical!"
As the two friends wandered between the trees, Benny fluffed his feathers, trying to keep warm. He chuckled to see their breaths turned misty in the cold air. “Look! Dragons!" he teased, puffing out a misty breath.
Little Squirrel giggled and joined in, puffing out misty clouds of her own. But their joy was interrupted when they noticed a shadow perched at the edge of the clearing, watching them intently. Unbeknownst to them, it was Old Badger, the forest elder, known to have his own mysterious plans.
