Perfect Hallways
Riley Matthews walked through Maple City High's crowded hallway, her designer heels clicking against the polished floor. Students turned to watch her pass, whispering about her perfect outfit and glowing skin. She spotted her boyfriend Ernie by his locker and smiled.
"Hey gorgeous," Ernie said, closing his locker door. His dark hair fell perfectly across his forehead as he leaned down to kiss her cheek. "Ready for lunch?"
"Always," Riley laughed, tucking a strand of her glossy dark hair behind her ear. Her long lashes caught the light as she blinked up at him.
They walked toward the cafeteria together, Riley's best friend Chloe joining them from her chemistry class. Chloe's red hair was pulled back in a messy bun, and she looked tired.
"You two are so perfect it's almost annoying," Chloe said with a forced smile, but Riley caught something sharp in her voice.
Perfect Timing
Riley sat at their usual lunch table, picking at her salad while Ernie talked about basketball practice. Chloe had barely touched her food and kept checking her phone.
"So anyway, Coach thinks we might make regionals this year," Ernie said, but his voice faded as Riley noticed a woman in a crisp white suit approaching their table.
"Excuse me, are you Riley Matthews?" the woman asked, her smile professional but warm. She had short blonde hair and carried a leather portfolio. "I'm Sarah Chen from Spotlight Modeling Agency. I've been watching you during lunch."
Riley's fork clattered against her plate. "Modeling agency?"
"We're looking for fresh faces for our teen division. You have exactly the look we need." Sarah handed Riley a business card. "Would you be interested in a photo shoot this weekend?"
Ernie's eyes widened. "That's amazing, Riley!"
But when Riley looked at Chloe, her friend's face had gone pale. Chloe's grip tightened around her phone.
"Actually," Sarah continued, turning to Ernie, "we could use a male model too. Interested?"
Riley felt her heart skip as Ernie grinned. This was like a dream come true.
