Morning Patrol
Ms. Crayon Cat stretched her arms wide as the morning sun painted golden streaks across Canvas Cat City. She stood on the highest balcony of Crayon Cat Tower, her blue and black supersuit catching the early light. Her giant magic crayon gleamed in her paws.
"Perfect day for a patrol," she said, adjusting her blue mask.
Below her, the city hummed with life. Humanoid cats hurried along sidewalks while humans rushed to work. A couple walked hand in hand near the fountain plaza. Everything looked normal and colorful.
Ms. Crayon Cat launched herself into the air, her cape flowing behind her. She loved these morning flights around the city. The marketplace buzzed with vendors setting up rainbow-colored fruit stands. Children played in parks filled with bright flowers.
But something felt different today. She couldn't quite place what it was.
She circled the art district where painters worked on massive murals. A calico kitten waved from a window. Ms. Crayon Cat waved back, her orange, black, and white fur shimmering in the sunlight.
The Silent Fountain
As Ms. Crayon Cat flew over the fountain plaza, she noticed something strange. The water that had sparkled with rainbow reflections moments earlier now ran completely clear. She landed beside the large stone fountain where a woman with short brown hair knelt, dipping her fingers into the colorless water.
"Excuse me," Ms. Crayon Cat said, her orange, black, and white calico fur bristling with concern. "Did you see what happened to the colors here?"
The woman looked up with worried green eyes. "I'm Maya, the fountain keeper. I came to check the morning readings and found this." She gestured at the crystal-clear water. "All the mineral colors that make our fountain so beautiful just vanished."
Ms. Crayon Cat raised her giant magic crayon. "Maybe I can help restore them."
But when she pointed the crayon at the water and concentrated, nothing happened. Her usual powers felt strangely muted.
"That's odd," she muttered.
Maya stood up, water dripping from her hands. "It's not just odd. Look around."
Ms. Crayon Cat turned and gasped. The bright flowers in the nearby garden beds had lost their vibrant reds and yellows. Even the rainbow fruit stands she'd admired earlier now displayed only pale, washed-out colors.
