Morning Rounds
Ms Paintbrush Okapi zipped through the morning sky above Canvas Savanah Metropolis, her rainbow cape streaming behind her. The city sparkled below with buildings painted in every color imaginable, home to humans and humanoid animals living together peacefully.
She landed gracefully on the steps of Crayon Okapi Castle, her blue supersuit catching the sunlight. The castle's crayon towers twisted upward like colorful spirals, with crystal windows that threw rainbows across the courtyard.
"Good morning, Ms Paintbrush!" called Officer Sketch, a tall humanoid giraffe wearing a police uniform. He waved from his patrol car parked near the fountain.
"Morning, Officer Sketch! Quiet night?" she asked, adjusting her blue mask.
"Very quiet. Too quiet, actually," he said, scratching his spotted head. "Haven't had a single report in three days. Usually we get at least a few calls about missing bikes or loud music."
Ms Paintbrush tilted her head thoughtfully. In a city this big, three days of complete silence felt unusual. Her power sensing ability hadn't detected anything strange either, but something felt off.
The Empty Gallery
Before Ms Paintbrush could respond to Officer Sketch's concerns about the quiet streets, her phone buzzed with an urgent text message. She pulled it from her utility belt and read the screen.
"Oh no," she whispered, her brown okapi ears drooping.
"What is it?" Officer Sketch asked, leaning down from his patrol car.
"It's from Marina Brushstroke at the Canvas Gallery downtown. She says all the paintings have vanished overnight." Ms Paintbrush's blue hair whipped in the morning breeze as she looked up at the tall giraffe officer. "Every single artwork in the gallery is gone."
Officer Sketch's spotted neck stretched even taller in surprise. "Gone? Like stolen?"
"She doesn't know. No broken windows, no alarms, no signs of a break-in." Ms Paintbrush tucked her phone away and summoned her giant magic paintbrush, its wooden handle materializing in her black-gloved hands. "I need to get there immediately."
"I'll meet you there," Officer Sketch called as his patrol car engine roared to life.
Ms Paintbrush launched into the sky, her rainbow cape streaming behind her. As she flew toward downtown, she spotted something strange below. Outside Melody's Music Shop, a small humanoid otter stood staring at the empty display window, scratching his head in confusion.
