Morning Patrol

Ms. Crayon Axolotl stretched her frilly gills as morning sunlight streamed through the tall windows of Crayon Aquarium Fortress. The building's colorful walls shimmered like rainbow scales, each brick painted in brilliant hues that made her dark eyes sparkle with pride.

"Another beautiful day in Wild Art City," she said, adjusting her purple mask. Her blue-and-black supersuit felt snug and ready for action. She grabbed her giant magic crayon from its special stand, feeling its familiar glow warm her pink hands.

Outside her window, the city bustled with life. Street artists painted murals while couples walked hand in hand through the colorful streets. Everything looked perfect and peaceful.

Ms. Crayon stepped onto her balcony and spread her arms wide. With a gentle push, she launched into the sky for her daily patrol. The wind rushed past her gills as she soared over rooftops, keeping watch over her beloved city.

But something felt different today. She couldn't quite put her finger on it.

The Fading Palette

As Ms. Crayon soared over the bustling streets, she spotted something alarming below. The bright red mailbox on Painter's Corner looked pale pink. The vibrant yellow taxi cabs appeared cream-colored. Even the emerald green park benches seemed washed out.

She swooped down for a closer look, landing beside a woman with short brown hair who was frantically mixing paint on a canvas. The woman wore a colorful apron over her jeans and had worried hazel eyes.

"Excuse me," Ms. Crayon said, her gills fluttering with concern. "Is something wrong with the colors today?"

The woman looked up, paintbrush trembling in her hand. "I'm Maya, and I've been painting here every morning for five years. But look!" She pointed at her palette. "My crimson paint turned light pink. My cobalt blue became pale gray. Everything's fading!"

Ms. Crayon examined the paint tubes scattered around Maya's easel. Each one contained colors that were definitely lighter than their labels promised.

"When did this start?" Ms. Crayon asked, gripping her magic crayon tighter.

"About an hour ago," Maya replied. "It's happening all over the city. Someone's stealing our colors!"
