Towel Trouble at the Castle
Listen to audiobook
Morning Whispers
Crayon Mother Cat stood at the highest window of the blue crayon tower, watching the morning sun paint Canvas Forest City in golden hues. Below, humans and humanoid cats hurried to work while deer families strolled through the parks.
"Good morning, my dears!" she called to the nine deer friends who lived in Crayon Castle.
Rosie Deer poked her head out from the red tower window. "Morning, Mother Cat! We're getting ready for our baths."
"Wonderful! I'll be down in a moment for tub time," Mother Cat replied, adjusting her flowing red cape.
As she descended the spiral staircase, her bright green eyes noticed something odd. A pink towel lay crumpled on the floor near the yellow tower entrance.
"That's strange," she murmured, picking up the soft fabric. "This belongs to Lily Deer."
From somewhere in the castle came a giggle, followed by the sound of running hooves on marble floors.
Mother Cat's whiskers twitched with curiosity. The castle felt different today, filled with an energy she couldn't quite place.
The Laundromat Discovery
Mother Cat followed the sound of giggles down the marble hallway. The laughter led her past the green tower and around a corner she rarely explored.
"That's odd," she whispered, stopping at a wooden door marked with a soap bubble symbol.
Inside, she heard the whirring of washing machines and the gentle splash of water. Mother Cat pushed open the door and gasped.
The castle's laundromat was packed with towels—pink ones, blue ones, yellow ones with flower patterns. Every washing machine spun with colorful fabric inside.
"Oh my!" squeaked a voice from behind a large washing machine.
A small humanoid deer with auburn fur and bright blue eyes peeked out. She had shoulder-length curly brown hair tied with a green ribbon and wore a purple housecoat.
"I'm Penny Deer," she said, wringing her hooves nervously. "I was just trying to help everyone by washing all the towels at once. But the machines are acting strange today."
Suddenly, one washing machine began overflowing with sudsy water, sending bubbles everywhere across the stone floor.
