The Crystal Crayon Crisis
Listen to audiobook
Morning Patrol in the Thicket
Super Crayon Buck stretched his tall frame as the morning sun painted the Solitude Crayon Thicket in brilliant colors. His black and blue supersuit caught the light as he walked between towering crayon trees, their waxy bark gleaming like candy.
"Another peaceful day," he said to himself, adjusting his red cape.
His phone buzzed. Captain Rodriguez's voice crackled through. "Buck, we've got reports of something strange happening downtown. Citizens are calling about... well, they're not making much sense."
Buck's antlers perked up. "What kind of strange?"
"Giant crayons. Bigger than buildings. And they're made of crystal."
Buck stopped walking. Through his blue mask, his kind eyes narrowed. "Crystal crayons?"
"Three blocks near the art district. People are gathering to stare. We need you to check it out."
Buck looked at his giant glowing blue crayon, its energy crackling softly. Something felt different about this morning. The air seemed to shimmer with an odd tension.
The Frequency Match
Buck flew through the morning sky toward downtown Cervine Metropolis. His red cape fluttered behind him as he used his super speed to weave between the tall buildings.
He landed on Fifth Street and froze. Three enormous crystal crayons towered above him, each one fifty feet tall. They weren't just big—they were growing. Buck watched one stretch another foot taller as purple crystal spread up its sides.
"Excuse me, are you Super Crayon Buck?" A woman with short blonde hair approached. She wore paint-splattered overalls and carried a toolbox. "I'm Maya Chen, the city's art district coordinator. These things appeared an hour ago."
"Growing crystal crayons," Buck muttered, pulling out his giant blue crayon. It crackled with energy. "Have you noticed anything else unusual?"
Maya pointed to a nearby music festival setup. "The sound equipment started malfunctioning right when these showed up. The speakers are making this weird humming noise."
Buck listened. The hum matched the frequency of his crackling crayon perfectly. His antlers tingled with recognition.
"Maya, I think these crystal crayons are feeding off energy sources in the city."
