Morning at the Tower

Super Marker Lion stretched his golden arms as the morning sun hit the windows of Super Marker Tower. The giant markers that made up his home gleamed in rainbow colors around him. Today felt different somehow.

"Good morning, Creative Pride City!" he called out from his balcony. Below, humans and lions walked the colorful streets together, heading to work and school.

His giant magic marker appeared in his paw with a shimmer of light. The marker felt warm and familiar, like an old friend. He had been practicing his drawing powers for weeks, perfecting every line and curve.

"Today's the day I sign up for the Big Art Contest," he told himself, grinning widely. His amber eyes sparkled with excitement.

The contest was the biggest event in Creative Pride City. Artists from everywhere would compete. Super Marker Lion had dreamed of entering for years. His drawings always turned out exactly how he imagined them.

What could possibly go wrong?

The Flickering Friend

Super Marker Lion flew down from his tower and landed outside the Contest Registration Center. A long line of artists stretched around the block. Humans carried canvases and paint boxes while lion artists held sketch pads and charcoal sticks.

"This is it!" Super Marker Lion said, joining the line behind a woman with short black hair.

She turned around and smiled. "First time entering?" she asked. "I'm Maya, the shoemaker from Cobbler Street. I make art with old leather scraps."

"Super Marker Lion. I draw with my magic marker."

Maya's eyes widened. "The famous Super Marker Lion! Your drawings are legendary around here."

When they reached the front desk, Super Marker Lion signed his name with confidence. The registration clerk handed him a blue ribbon with the number 42.

"Contest starts in two hours at Creative Square," the clerk announced. "Theme is 'Dreams Come True.'"

Super Marker Lion grinned and summoned his giant magic marker. The familiar warm glow appeared, but something felt different. The marker flickered like a broken light bulb.

"Weird," he muttered, giving it a shake.

The marker suddenly sparked and shot a wild purple line across the registration table.
