Morning Patrol

Crayon Chris stood at the top of his blue crayon tower, watching the sun rise over Canvas Metropolis. The city sparkled below him like a rainbow made of buildings. His blue-and-black supersuit caught the morning light as he scanned the streets through his blue mask.

"Another peaceful day," he said, adjusting his giant blue crayon on his belt.

Down in the city square, Mrs. Woolsworth, a humanoid sheep with curly white wool, swept the sidewalk outside her bakery. Her friend Jake, a tall humanoid deer with brown antlers, carried boxes of fresh bread from his delivery truck.

"Morning, Mrs. Woolsworth!" Jake called out cheerfully.

"Good morning, dear! Beautiful day, isn't it?"

Chris smiled as he watched the friendly neighbors help each other. Canvas Metropolis was perfect - clean streets, happy citizens, and not a single problem in sight.

But something glinted strangely in the alley behind Jake's truck. Chris squinted, using his X-ray vision to get a better look. Dark shapes moved between the garbage bins, too quick to identify.

Strange Sounds in the Morning

Chris swooped down from his tower, his blue cape fluttering behind him. He landed silently in the alley where the dark shapes had been moving.

"What in the world?" he whispered.

Three creature-like forms made of crumpled newspapers, banana peels, and coffee cups shuffled between the garbage bins. They had glowing red button eyes and moved with jerky, unnatural steps.

"Trash... must... spread..." one of them groaned in a voice like rustling paper.

Chris stepped back, bumping into Jake the deer. "Whoa! Chris, you scared me," Jake said, his brown antlers nearly knocking over a trash can. "What are you doing back here?"

"Jake, can you see those things?"

Jake squinted at the creatures. "Those walking piles of garbage? Yeah, weird art project or something?"

The largest trash creature turned toward them. Bits of rotting lettuce dripped from its arms. "Canvas... Metropolis... will... be... ours..."

"Art project my tail," Chris muttered, pulling out his giant blue crayon. "Jake, we need to get everyone to safety. These things aren't friendly."

More shuffling sounds echoed from other alleys around the city square.
