Morning Rituals at the Base

Chris stretched his arms above his head as the morning sun streamed through the crystal dome of Crayon Base. The four towering crayon spires cast colorful shadows across the polished floor where he stood.

"Another beautiful day in Canvas Metropolis," he said to himself, adjusting his blue mask. His giant blue crayon materialized in his hand with a soft shimmer.

Through the transparent walls, he could see the bustling city below. Humans hurried along sidewalks while humanoid deer tended flower shops and goat couples shared breakfast at outdoor cafes. A pair of sheep women walked hand-in-hand past the fountain in the central square.

Chris practiced a few crayon blasts at the training targets. Blue energy beams shot from his crayon, hitting each bullseye perfectly.

"My aim's getting better," he muttered, pleased with his progress.

He walked to his workstation where dozens of blank canvases waited. His fingers itched to create something new today. Something special. Maybe something bigger than usual.

The Giant Canvas Surprise

Chris picked up his largest brush and dipped it in bright yellow paint. Today felt different. Special. He wanted to create something huge.

"Maybe a giant sunflower," he said, approaching the biggest canvas he'd ever used. It stretched nearly wall to wall.

His giant blue crayon appeared in his other hand. He decided to sketch the outline first, then paint. The crayon felt heavier than usual, almost buzzing with energy.

Chris began drawing bold, sweeping petals. Each stroke sent tiny blue sparks across the canvas. He'd never seen that happen before.

"That's weird," he muttered, but kept drawing.

Suddenly, the canvas shook. The painted sunflower's petals fluttered like they were caught in a breeze. Chris stepped back, eyes wide.

The sunflower turned its painted head toward him.

"Did I just—" Chris started.

The flower pulled itself free from the canvas with a wet, tearing sound. Yellow petals scattered everywhere as it hopped onto the floor on its green stem legs.

"Oh no," Chris whispered.

The living sunflower bounced toward the exit, leaving paint drops in its wake. Through the dome's transparent walls, Chris could see it escaping into Canvas Metropolis.
