The Star Pin's Secret
Mariza pressed her face against the cool glass of Wendy's bedroom window, watching raindrops race down the surface. Her turquoise sneakers dangled from the edge of the bed as she sat cross-legged, carefully braiding turquoise streaks through her brown hair.
"I brought hot chocolate," Wendy announced, carrying two steaming mugs decorated with tiny marshmallows.
Mariza's green eyes sparkled as she accepted the warm drink. "This is the best sleepover ever."
"Wait until you see what I found in my grandmother's attic," Wendy whispered, pulling out an ornate wooden box. Inside, a collection of old photographs showed children flying through starlit skies.
"These look so real," Mariza breathed, tracing her finger over one image.
A soft tinkling sound filled the room, like distant bells carried on wind. Both girls looked up to see a golden glow seeping through the window cracks.
"Did you hear that?" Wendy asked.
The temperature dropped suddenly, and Mariza's breath formed small clouds in the air. Her star pin began to shimmer with an unusual blue light.
The Boy Who Flew
The window burst open with a rush of cold air, sending the photographs scattering across Wendy's bedroom floor. A boy floated through the opening, his feet never touching the ground. He looked about their age, with messy reddish-brown hair and clothes made from what appeared to be leaves and bark.
"Peter Pan!" Wendy gasped, clutching Mariza's arm.
The boy grinned, showing a gap between his front teeth. "You know my name! That makes everything easier."
A tiny golden light zipped around his head, making angry chiming sounds. Mariza watched the sparkling creature with fascination until she noticed its furious expression.
"Tinker Bell says you two should come with us," Peter announced, though the fairy's chimes sounded more like protests than invitations.
Mariza felt water droplets forming around her fingertips as her emotions spiked. "Where exactly?"
"Neverland, of course! A place where you never have to grow up." Peter's eyes gleamed with mischief. "Think lovely thoughts, and you'll fly!"
Before either girl could respond, Peter grabbed their hands. The room spun away beneath them as they soared through the open window into the star-filled night.
