Rainbow Mornings

Ms. Paintbrush Bear stretched her blue arms and yawned. The rainbow stalactites above her bed caught the morning light streaming through the cave entrance, casting colorful patterns on the stone walls.

"Good morning, sleepyhead," called Bianca from the shower area. The bat's voice echoed cheerfully through their home in Canvas Forest City.

"Coffee's ready!" added Clarice, adjusting her towel as she flew past.

Darlene perched near the cave opening, studying something outside. "You might want to see this, Paint."

Ms. Paintbrush Bear slipped on her black and light blue supersuit and fastened her rainbow cape. She joined Darlene at the entrance, squinting into the bright morning.

"Look at that building across the plaza," Darlene pointed with one wing.

The side of the old library was completely covered in the most beautiful mural Ms. Paintbrush Bear had ever seen. Swirls of purple and gold danced around painted flowers that seemed to bloom right off the brick walls.

"When did that appear?" she asked.

"Sometime during the night. Nobody saw who did it."

The Morning Runner

Ms. Paintbrush Bear flew across the plaza toward the library, her rainbow cape streaming behind her. The mural was even more stunning up close. Purple and gold swirls seemed to dance in the morning sunlight.

"Someone's really talented," she murmured, touching the still-wet paint with one blue finger.

A jogger in bright orange shorts stopped beside her. The human woman had curly red hair pulled back in a ponytail and green eyes that sparkled with excitement.

"Amazing, isn't it?" the jogger said, catching her breath. "I'm Sarah, by the way. I run this route every morning, and this definitely wasn't here yesterday."

"Ms. Paintbrush Bear," she replied, studying the artwork more carefully. "Did you see anyone around here last night?"

Sarah shook her head. "Nothing unusual. But here's the weird part—" She pointed down the street. "There's another one three blocks over. Same style, appeared overnight too."

Ms. Paintbrush Bear's eyes widened. One secret mural was curious. Two meant something bigger was happening.

"Want to show me?" she asked.

Sarah grinned. "Race you there!"
