Morning Duties

Paintbrush Mother Goat adjusted her blue and black dress as she stepped onto the highest balcony of her fortress. The four gleaming paintbrush towers stretched toward the morning sky, casting long shadows across Canvas Fairy Tale Land below.

"Another peaceful day," she murmured, watching the distant villages wake up.

Her magic paintbrush hummed softly at her side, its golden bristles catching the sunlight. She had protected this land for years, keeping villains like Dark Wolf and Terror Vixen at bay with her powers.

A soft chime echoed from somewhere deep within the fortress. Paintbrush Mother Goat frowned. That sound came from the basement levels—areas she rarely visited. The fortress had many rooms she'd inherited but never explored.

"Strange," she said, adjusting her black mask. "I should check that out."

She glided down the spiral staircase, her hooves clicking against the marble steps. The chiming grew louder as she descended past the main floors, past the kitchen and library, down toward the forgotten basement levels she'd never bothered to investigate.

The Chiming Below

The basement door creaked open, revealing stone steps that spiraled downward into darkness. Paintbrush Mother Goat gripped her magic paintbrush tighter as the mysterious chiming echoed from below.

"Hello?" she called softly. Her hooves clicked against the cold stones as she descended.

The air smelled different here—old and dusty, like forgotten secrets. At the bottom, she found herself in a narrow hallway lined with doors she'd never seen before. The chiming came from behind the third door on her left.

She pushed it open and gasped.

Inside was a hidden art gallery filled with paintings hanging on the walls. But these weren't ordinary pictures. Each canvas showed scenes from Canvas Fairy Tale Land's past—battles she'd never heard of, heroes she didn't recognize, and strangest of all, a painting of herself as a young goat standing beside creatures that looked like the villains she now fought.

"That's impossible," she whispered, stepping closer to examine her younger self in the painting.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed in the hallway behind her. Someone else was down here.
