Morning Shadows
Celia stepped carefully across the cracked ground of Moon Colony Eonis. The towers stretched up like metal fingers against the dark sky, their bio-luminescent panels casting eerie blue-green light across the rocky surface.
"Mom said not to wander far from the research station," she whispered to herself, but her green eyes sparkled with curiosity. Her parents were busy with their important magical experiments inside. They barely noticed when their ten-year-old daughter slipped outside.
The distant sun made everything look strange. Long shadows crawled between the abandoned buildings like dark rivers. Her boots crunched on loose stones as she walked toward a particularly tall tower.
Something moved behind a fallen beam.
Celia froze. Her hand tightened around her small wand, which gave off just a tiny glow. She wasn't supposed to be here alone, but the colony looked so empty and peaceful.
A soft whirring sound drifted from the shadows. Then another. And another.
Her heart began to beat faster.
Boxes in the Dark
Three sleek metal shapes rolled out from behind the fallen beam. They looked like moving boxes with glowing blue sensors for eyes and spinning wheels underneath.
"Scanning... scanning..." one of them beeped. "Target located. Small human detected."
Celia's eyes went wide. These weren't just abandoned machines - they were robots! And they were talking about her.
She took a step backward, but her boot caught on a loose rock. Down she tumbled with a loud crash that echoed across the empty colony.
"Target is mobile," announced the second robot. "Initiating capture protocol."
The three box-shaped machines whirred toward her with surprising speed. Their blue sensors blinked rapidly as mechanical arms unfolded from their sides.
Celia scrambled to her feet, her wand flickering with nervous energy. "Stay back!" she called out, but her voice sounded small in the vast open space.
"Resistance detected," the third robot reported. "Switching to containment mode."
Before she could run, a shimmering net shot out from the lead robot. The strange material wrapped around her arms and legs, making them tingle and go numb.
"Got her," the first robot announced cheerfully. "Transport to underground facility begins now."
