Morning Patrol

Captain Pencil stretched his arms as golden sunlight streamed through the tall windows of Pencil Fortress. The four pencil towers gleamed in the morning light, casting long shadows across Sketch City below.

"Another beautiful day to protect creativity," he said, adjusting his black sunglass goggles.

His giant pencil materialized in his hand with a soft electric hum. The familiar weight felt reassuring as he prepared for his morning patrol. Blue energy crackled along the pencil's surface.

Captain Pencil stepped onto the balcony overlooking the bustling city. Below, humanoid sharks skateboarded to work while sheep couples walked their small children to art school. A few superhero artists flew between buildings, their colorful capes fluttering in the breeze.

Everything looked peaceful and normal. Too normal.

His phone buzzed with an urgent message from the Mayor's office. "Emergency meeting. Art supplies going missing citywide."

Captain Pencil frowned. Missing art supplies? That was unusual for Sketch City, where creativity flourished everywhere.

Empty Shelves

Captain Pencil soared through the morning air toward City Hall, his cape rippling behind him. The mayor's urgent message had left him puzzled. Art supplies going missing? In Sketch City, that was like stealing the sun from the sky.

He landed on the marble steps just as Mayor Rodriguez, a smart woman with short black hair and wire-rimmed glasses, burst through the doors. Her usually neat business suit looked wrinkled, and her brown eyes were wide with panic.

"Captain Pencil! Thank goodness you're here," she said, clutching her tablet. "It's worse than I thought. Every art store in the city reported empty shelves this morning. Paintbrushes, markers, colored pencils—gone!"

"How is that possible?" Captain Pencil asked. "Did anyone see anything suspicious?"

Mayor Rodriguez shook her head. "That's the strangest part. Store owners say they locked up with full inventory last night. This morning—nothing."

Captain Pencil felt his giant pencil flicker in his hand. The blue energy that usually crackled along its surface dimmed for a moment before returning to normal.

"Even my pencil seems affected," he muttered, studying the weapon with concern.
