Morning at the Fortress

Captain Paintbrush stood at the highest window of Canvas Fortress, watching the morning sun paint golden streaks across Art Gallery Metropolis. The four paintbrush towers of his fortress gleamed like beacons, their tips catching the light.

"Another peaceful day," he murmured, adjusting his black sunglass goggles.

His assistant, Maya Chen, burst through the door with a tablet in hand. "Captain! You need to see this immediately!"

She was breathing hard, her straight black hair slightly messy from running up the tower stairs. Her brown eyes were wide with concern behind her silver-rimmed glasses.

"What's wrong?" Captain Paintbrush turned from the window, his blue gloves catching the light.

Maya held up the tablet, showing security footage from the Metropolitan Art Museum. "Three paintings vanished last night. No alarms, no broken glass, no signs of forced entry. They just... disappeared."

Captain Paintbrush frowned, his enhanced senses already picking up something unusual in the air. "Show me everything."

The Sparrow's Warning

Maya pulled up the museum's security feed on her tablet. The footage showed three empty picture frames hanging on white walls. Where masterpieces once hung, only blank spaces remained.

"Look at this," Maya said, pointing at the timestamp. "The paintings were there at midnight. Gone by 12:15. Fifteen minutes."

Captain Paintbrush studied the screen. His X-ray vision picked up something strange about the empty frames. "The frames themselves look different. Enhanced somehow."

A small brown sparrow suddenly flew through the open window, landing on Maya's tablet with urgent chirping. The bird's tiny claws scratched against the screen as it hopped back and forth.

"Shoo!" Maya waved her hand, but the sparrow refused to leave. Instead, it pecked at specific spots on the security footage.

Captain Paintbrush watched carefully. "Wait. It's trying to show us something."

The sparrow tapped the corner of each empty frame in the footage, then flew to the window and back, repeating the pattern three times.

"It's like it witnessed everything," Maya whispered.

Captain Paintbrush's power sensing ability suddenly detected an energy signature moving fast across the city. "Something's happening at the Downtown Gallery District right now."
