Flickering Screens

Duncan pushed open the heavy door to the Cartoon Network security office. The smell of stale coffee and old electronics filled his nose. Harold followed behind him, adjusting his thick glasses.

"Are you sure we should be here?" Harold whispered, looking around at the rows of monitors covering every wall.

Duncan rolled his eyes. "Relax, nerd. The janitor left it unlocked. We're just looking around."

The screens showed different cartoon shows playing on loop. Duncan recognized some of them from when he was younger. Harold pointed at one monitor in the corner that seemed different from the others.

"Look at that one," Harold said. "It's all fuzzy."

The screen flickered wildly, showing brief glimpses of two cartoon characters - a blue jay and a raccoon. The image kept breaking apart into digital squares, then reforming.

"Weird," Duncan muttered, walking closer. "Never seen a TV do that before."

Harold pushed his glasses up his nose again. "Maybe it's broken?"

The screen made a strange crackling sound, and for just a moment, Duncan could swear he heard voices coming from inside it.

Voices in the Static

Duncan stepped closer to the flickering monitor. The voices became clearer - two cartoon characters arguing inside the screen.

"Dude, we're totally stuck!" said the blue jay, his voice crackling through the speakers.

"This is all your fault, Mordecai!" replied the raccoon. "If you hadn't pressed that weird button-"

Harold's eyes widened behind his glasses. "Duncan, they're talking to each other. Actual cartoon characters!"

The screen glitched worse. The blue jay, Mordecai, started breaking apart into digital squares. The raccoon, Rigby, flickered in and out of view.

"Hey! Can anyone hear us out there?" Mordecai called out desperately.

Duncan looked around the security office, spotting a microphone near the control panel. He grabbed it and pressed the talk button.

"Uh, yeah. We can hear you," Duncan said awkwardly.

Both cartoon characters stopped arguing and stared directly at Duncan and Harold through the screen.

"Oh man, real people!" Rigby shouted. "You gotta help us! We're glitching apart!"

The monitor sparked, and both characters screamed as their images scrambled into colorful static.
