The Kelp Forest Championship

The Deep Dive
Archie adjusted his goggles one last time before diving off the research boat. The water felt surprisingly warm as he descended into the Sea Kelp Forest. Giant brown kelp plants swayed around him like underwater trees, their thick stems reaching toward the surface far above.
"This is incredible," he whispered into his breathing apparatus, watching colorful fish dart between the kelp fronds.
A small orange seahorse clung to a nearby stem, eyeing him curiously. Archie swam closer, his worn Converse sneakers feeling oddly heavy in the water. He'd insisted on wearing them despite the marine biologist's protests.
Suddenly, he heard muffled cheering echoing through the water. Archie paused, floating among the kelp. The sounds seemed impossible—who could be making noise this deep underwater?
Following the distant commotion, he swam deeper into the forest. The cheering grew louder, and through a gap in the kelp, he glimpsed something that made his eyes widen in amazement.
The Underwater Stadium
Through the kelp gap, Archie saw something impossible. A circular clearing had been carved into the forest floor, surrounded by towering kelp walls like a natural stadium. Sea creatures filled makeshift bleachers made of coral and rock formations.
"Go team Tsunami!" squeaked a dolphin wearing a tiny blue cap.
In the center, two teams of fish were playing what looked like underwater soccer. They pushed a glowing jellyfish back and forth using their fins and tails. The jellyfish pulsed different colors as it moved.
Archie's breathing apparatus made a loud bubbling sound as he gasped. Every sea creature in the stadium turned to stare at him.
"A surface dweller!" shouted an octopus referee, waving all eight tentacles. "Security!"
Three large grouper fish swam toward Archie, but the small orange seahorse from earlier zipped between them.
"Wait!" the seahorse called out in a high, musical voice. "He might be the one we've been waiting for!"
The crowd fell silent. The soccer game stopped. Even the jellyfish ball dimmed to a soft purple glow.
A wise-looking sea turtle wearing thick seaweed spectacles swam forward. "Young human," she said slowly, "can you play kelp-ball?"
