The Quiet Smudge

Blue Crayon Lion floated beside Blue Crayon Tower’s open balcony, watching Scribble Metropolis sparkle with neon ads and doodled billboards.

His phone buzzed.

Patch-7 hovered up, its blue lights blinking.

"Morning patrol done?" it asked.

"Done," he said. He sniffed. "Why does the air smell like nail polish?"

"Vent report says ‘minor solvent presence,’" Patch-7 said, and flicked a tiny tool arm toward his screen.

An alert flashed: BLUE CHANNEL ERRORS — DOWNTOWN.

"Channel? Like… color channels?" he muttered.

He stepped to the practice wall inside the balcony doors and raised his giant glowing blue crayon.

"Okay, buddy. Easy line."

The crayon scratched.

A thin, sad streak slid down like watered paint.

Patch-7’s camera eye zoomed in.

"That is not regulation blue," it said.

"No kidding." He pressed harder.

The mark only got grayer.

Patch-7 whirred.

"Loading bay logged new barrels: ‘cyan concentrate.’"

Blue Crayon Lion’s ears tilted back.

"Show me."

The Mop With Opinions

Blue Crayon Lion and Patch-7, the dented little maintenance drone, hurried into the loading bay.

The floor shined wet. Blue liquid ran from stacked barrels stamped CYAN CONCENTRATE.

A window cleaner swished a mop like it was angry.

“Stop!” the woman barked. “One step and you’ll skate into that drain.”

Blue Crayon Lion held his crayon up like a walking stick. “Who are you?”

“Margo. I clean the tower’s windows and everyone’s mess.” She pointed her mop at the ceiling vent. “That smell? It’s in the water lines now. My rinse bucket turned gray.”

Patch-7’s camera eye blinked fast. “City fountain feed just dropped. Blue values: near zero.”

From the open bay door, a street fountain burped a sad, colorless splash.

Blue Crayon Lion frowned. “Okay. I’ll cap the spill.”

He drew a thick blue wall.

The line came out pale and crumbly, like dry sidewalk chalk.

Margo groaned. “Great. Even the hero’s marker is on strike.”

The watery cyan slid around the crumbling wall and raced toward a floor grate stamped CITY WATER RETURN.

Patch-7 shot a clamp-arm down.

The clamp slipped, skittered away, and the gray-blue puddle started to whirl into the drain
