Morning at the Blue Castle

Canvas Polar Metropolis was the kind of city that made you stop and stare. Every building wore a different color — tangerine storefronts, cobalt rooftops, lime-green lamp posts lining streets that practically hummed with life. Caribou, polar bears, and muskoxen in bright coats and scarves filled the sidewalks every morning, chattering and laughing.

Right at the city's heart stood Creative Crayon Castle — blue walls, black towers, and a flag snapping cheerfully in the cold Arctic wind.

Inside, Zara — better known as Creative Crayon Caribou — sat at the kitchen table, wrestling with a bowl of oatmeal that had gone cold again.

"You forgot to eat," said her castle assistant, a stout polar bear named Benny, setting down a fresh mug of cocoa. "Third time this week."

"I was thinking," Zara said.

"About what?"

She glanced out the tall window at the brilliant city beyond.

"Something feels different today. I can't explain it."

Something in the Grey

Zara pushed back from the table and walked to the window.

The tangerine storefront across the street — the one that sold warm fudge every morning — was grey. Not just dim. Grey. Like someone had taken a wet cloth and wiped away every bit of color.

"Benny," she said quietly.

The stout polar bear stepped beside her. His small dark eyes went wide.

"That was orange an hour ago," he said.

They both watched as the cobalt-blue lamp post on the corner slowly faded, like ink draining from a pen, until it stood pale and dull in the cold air.

Zara grabbed her red cape from the hook by the door.

Outside, a tiny drone — no bigger than a dinner plate, buzzing like an angry bee — zipped past at eye level. It sprayed a fine grey mist across a bright yellow bakery wall. The yellow vanished instantly.

The drone turned. Its single round camera lens swiveled and pointed directly at Zara.
