The Golden Invitation
Leah clutched her small bunny plush tighter as she stared at the holographic invitation floating above her pink tablet. The shimmer of silver letters spelled out Hera's name in elegant script.
"A sleepover at the Cloud Tower?" Leah whispered to her bunny. "That's the tallest building in all of Maple City!"
Through her bedroom window, the autumn leaves glowed orange and red against the tech-advanced skyline. Somewhere up there, past the flying cars and digital billboards, Hera lived in the clouds.
Leah's phone buzzed with a message from her best friend: "Pack your favorite pajamas! And maybe some antacids... I ordered WAY too much food for tonight! 🍕🍰🍔"
Leah giggled and started stuffing her silver backpack with pink sleepwear and her bunny plush. She had no idea that by tomorrow morning, everything would be different.
Tower of Treats
The elevator whooshed upward so fast that Leah's stomach fluttered. Through the glass walls, Maple City shrunk below them like a glowing toy model.
"Floor ninety-seven!" the elevator announced in a cheerful voice.
Hera bounced on her toes as the doors slid open. "Welcome to my home in the clouds!"
Leah gasped. The apartment stretched out like a palace, with floor-to-ceiling windows showing the entire city. But what made her jaw drop were the delivery boxes stacked everywhere—pizza boxes, cake containers, burger bags, and ice cream tubs.
"I may have gone a little overboard," Hera giggled, opening the first pizza box. Steam rose from the cheese. "There's chocolate cake, strawberry ice cream, chicken nuggets, fries, donuts, and—"
"Hera, this could feed fifty people!" Leah laughed, setting her bunny plush on the couch.
Her friend shrugged. "I wanted our sleepover to be perfect. Besides, my parents are away on business. We have the whole tower to ourselves!"
As they dove into the feast, neither girl noticed the small sparrow perched outside the window, watching them with curious black eyes.
