The Fourth Tower’s Whisper

Creative Paintbrush Elk stood on the lodge balcony, watching Canvas Forest City glide by on quiet street-belts below. Four paintbrush towers rose around the lodge like giant pens in holders, their metal bristles tucked in.

Her rainbow cape tapped her calves in the fan breeze. She took a sip of berry-fizz and checked her phone.

“Checklist says: small test,” she said.

Mila Park hurried out with a hard case. “And I brought the speed upgrade.”

Mila popped it open. Inside sat a glossy white control puck. A teal button read GO. A tiny gray slider read PAUSE.

Creative Paintbrush Elk picked it up. The puck felt warm from the case foam.

“The pause is a little… sticky,” Mila said, rubbing her thumb on the slider.

A tower light blinked once.

Then twice.

The lodge windows gave a nervous rattle as the towers hummed awake

Button-Sized Trouble

The humming jumped into a shove.

Creative Paintbrush Elk grabbed the balcony rail. Her hooves slid anyway. Her rainbow cape snapped like a flag.

Mila yelped and clutched the white control puck. Both of them dropped onto a moving street-belt below. It whisked them between shining planters and a bench shaped like a paint palette.

“PAUSE! PAUSE!” Mila said. She shoved the gray slider. It stuck halfway.

One tower’s metal bristles popped open. With a cough, it sprayed thick paint into the sky like a fire hose. Sticky stripes slapped across a billboard and the roof of a tiny cafe.

A bearded man stepped out, wiping his hands on a brown apron. Round brass goggles sat on his forehead.

“I am Orin Quill,” he called. “Clockmaker. That stuff sets fast. It jams gears. Doors. Street-belts.”

Creative Paintbrush Elk swung her arm. A giant paintbrush flashed into her hand.

She brushed at a stripe on the belt’s edge. The paint clung like gum.

Mila finally freed the slider—then the towers screeched louder, and a fresh spray splattered the cape, tugging her toward the nearest tower
