Morning Light Through Rainbow Glass

Paintbrush Mother Goat stood at the tall window of her castle tower, watching the sunrise paint Canvas Valley in gentle colors. Her rainbow cape fluttered as seven little goats bounced around her hooves.

"Mama, can we go to Sparkle Creek today?" asked Rosie, the smallest kid, tugging at her mother's blue dress.

"Please, Mama! We want to collect pretty stones!" chimed in Benny, doing a little hop.

Mother Goat smiled and patted Rosie's fuzzy head with her hoof. "After breakfast, little ones."

She turned back to the window, her golden eyes scanning the valley below. Something felt different this morning, though she couldn't say what. The usual bright blues and greens of the distant river seemed... muted somehow.

"Look, Mama!" called Pip from across the room. "The magic paintbrush is glowing!"

Sure enough, her giant paintbrush leaned against the wall, pulsing with a soft silver light. Mother Goat frowned slightly. The paintbrush only glowed when something needed attention.

The Gray Waters

After breakfast, Mother Goat led her seven kids down the winding path toward Sparkle Creek. Her magic paintbrush floated beside her, still pulsing with that strange silver light.

"Mama, look!" Rosie pointed ahead with her tiny hoof. "The creek isn't sparkling anymore!"

Mother Goat's golden eyes widened. The usually crystal-clear water had turned a dull gray color, like someone had mixed ash into it. No fish swam in the murky stream.

"Something's very wrong here," she murmured, kneeling by the water's edge.

Suddenly, a small brown otter popped his head above the gray surface, coughing and sputtering.

"Help!" the otter gasped. "The colors are disappearing everywhere! First the creek, then the flowers, even the sky is losing its blue!"

Benny tugged at his mother's cape. "Mama, what's making everything gray?"

Before Mother Goat could answer, her paintbrush began glowing brighter. Through its magic, she could sense something terrible moving through Canvas Valley - something hungry for color itself.

"We need to find the source," she said firmly. "Kids, stay close."
