The Hair Haven

Jackie pressed her face against the dusty window of Snip & Style salon, watching the hairdressers inside arrange their gleaming scissors and mysterious bottles. Her long black hair hung like a curtain around her shoulders, and she tugged nervously at her shark-tooth necklace.

"There she goes again," muttered Ollie, joining her at the window. His shaggy brown hair nearly covered his eyes completely. "Spying on the enemy."

"They're not the enemy," Jackie said, though her voice wavered. "They're just... scary."

Inside the salon, a cheerful woman with bright pink hair noticed them watching. She waved enthusiastically, holding up a pair of silver clippers that caught the afternoon sunlight.

Ollie jumped backward. "Devils! Pure devils!"

Jackie's heart hammered as the woman pointed at their wild hair and gave them a thumbs up. The clippers glinted menacingly in her hand.

"Run!" Ollie shrieked.

But Jackie stayed frozen at the window, watching the hairdresser's surprisingly kind smile.

The Morning Rush

The next morning, Jackie dragged her feet down Main Street, her black hair tangled from sleep. Ollie caught up with her, his shaggy brown locks bouncing with each step.

"Look!" Ollie pointed ahead. "The hairdressers are setting up something outside the salon!"

Three women in bright aprons were arranging folding chairs on the sidewalk. The pink-haired woman from yesterday held a clipboard and smiled at passing kids. A tall woman with curly red hair unpacked gleaming scissors from a wooden box. The third woman, small with braided blonde hair, polished a set of electric clippers until they sparkled.

"Free haircuts for messy-haired kids!" called the pink-haired woman. "Come one, come all!"

Jackie's stomach dropped. "They're hunting us!"

"Run!" Ollie shrieked.

But before they could move, a familiar voice shouted from behind them.

"Jackie! Ollie! Wait up!"

Remi sprinted toward them, his dark hair flopping wildly. Behind him ran Mike, Jacob, and Carson, all looking panicked.

"Did you see?" Remi panted. "They're everywhere! Setting up chairs, sharpening scissors!"

"If those devils get near my head, I'm gonna die from the baldness!" Carson wailed.
