Morning at the Lodge

Ms. Crayon Elk stretched her arms as morning sunlight streamed through the tall windows of Crayon Elk Lodge. Her black and blue supersuit felt snug and comfortable after a good night's sleep. She walked to the central tower window and gazed out at Art Wood City below.

The city bustled with activity. Human families walked alongside deer couples pushing strollers. A rabbit in a business suit hurried past a fountain where two women sat sharing coffee and laughing together.

Ms. Crayon Elk smiled at the peaceful scene. She reached for her giant blue magic crayon, feeling its familiar weight in her gloved hands. The weapon hummed softly with energy.

"Another beautiful day," she said aloud.

But as she looked closer at the fountain below, something seemed off. The water appeared slightly duller than usual. The flowers in the nearby garden looked... faded somehow.

Ms. Crayon Elk blinked and looked again. Maybe she was imagining things.

The Gray Morning

Ms. Crayon Elk decided to investigate. She flew down from her lodge, her light blue cape fluttering behind her. The morning air felt crisp against her fur as she landed near the fountain.

Up close, the problem was clear. The fountain's water had turned completely gray. The bright yellow daffodils nearby looked pale and washed out.

"Excuse me," called a voice.

Ms. Crayon Elk turned to see a koala woman in a paint-splattered apron hurrying toward her. The koala's gray fur looked even more colorless than usual, and her dark eyes were wide with worry.

"Are you Ms. Crayon Elk?" the koala asked. "I'm Luna, the city's art teacher. Something terrible is happening! The children's paintings are losing their colors right before our eyes. The red apples in their pictures are turning gray. The blue skies are fading to nothing."

Ms. Crayon Elk gripped her giant blue magic crayon tighter. Even its usual bright glow seemed dimmer than before.

"When did this start?" she asked.

"About an hour ago," Luna said. "It's spreading fast. The whole art district is affected now."
