Morning Reflections

Ms. Paintbrush Axolotl floated gracefully through the crystal-clear water of her aquarium home, her rainbow cape flowing behind her like liquid silk. The morning sunlight streamed through the glass walls, casting dancing patterns across the four towering paintbrush structures that made her home so unique.

"Another peaceful day in Wild Canvas City," she murmured to herself, her frilly gills fluttering with contentment.

Outside the aquarium walls, the bustling city was already alive with activity. Humanoid foxes hurried past on their way to work, while other axolotl neighbors waved cheerfully from the sidewalks. Ms. Paintbrush smiled and waved back through the glass.

She glided toward her favorite thinking spot near the largest tower, where her giant magic blue paintbrush rested against the coral-pink wall. Something felt different today, though she couldn't quite place what it was. The colors around her seemed just as vibrant as always, yet there was an odd sensation tugging at the edge of her consciousness.

"Must be my imagination," she decided, reaching for her paintbrush to begin her morning routine.

The Vanishing Shade

As Ms. Paintbrush Axolotl grasped her giant magic blue paintbrush, she gasped. The brilliant blue glow that usually radiated from its bristles flickered like a dying lightbulb, then dimmed to a pale gray.

"What's happening?" she whispered, her frilly gills trembling.

She swam quickly to her aquarium's glass wall and peered outside. The blue traffic signs that lined Canvas Street were now stark white. The sapphire fountain in the town square had turned colorless. Even the bright blue uniforms of the crossing guards were nothing but gray cloth.

A frantic tapping on the glass made her turn. Darlene, a red fox with amber eyes and a worried expression, stood outside gesturing wildly. She wore what should have been a blue work apron, but it hung gray and lifeless around her orange fur.

"Ms. Paintbrush!" Darlene called through the glass. "Every bit of blue in the city is gone! My daughter's favorite blue crayon turned gray right in her paw!"

Ms. Paintbrush's heart sank as she looked down at her own supersuit. The blue sections had faded to charcoal gray, leaving only the black portions untouched.

"Something is stealing all the blue from Wild Canvas City," she said grimly.
