The Color Thief's Challenge

Morning at the Fortress
Paintbrush Vixen stretched her fluffy orange tail as morning sunlight streamed through the windows of her fortress. The four paintbrush towers gleamed in the early light, casting colorful shadows across Art Zoo City below.
"Good morning, Art Zoo City!" she called out, adjusting her blue mask and smoothing her rainbow cape. Her giant magic paintbrush hummed with energy beside her.
From her window, she watched the city come alive. Mrs. Chen walked her purple poodle down Rainbow Street while the bakery twins, Sam and Sarah, opened their shop with bright yellow awnings. A family of bear artists set up easels in Central Park, their cubs playing with sidewalk chalk.
Everything looked perfect and vibrant. The murals on building walls sparkled with fresh paint, and the rainbow crosswalks gleamed like jewels.
Paintbrush Vixen smiled and picked up her glowing paintbrush. "Time to start another colorful day," she said, not knowing that across the city, something gray and troubling was already stirring in the shadows.
The Gray Creep
Paintbrush Vixen was about to step outside when her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and saw a text from Mrs. Chen: "Help! Something's wrong with Poodle!"
She grabbed her magic paintbrush and flew down Rainbow Street. Mrs. Chen stood outside the pet grooming salon, looking worried. Her purple poodle sat beside her, but something was terribly wrong.
"Look at her fur!" Mrs. Chen pointed.
Paintbrush Vixen gasped. The poodle's beautiful purple coat was turning gray, starting from her paws and creeping upward like spilled water.
"It started five minutes ago," Mrs. Chen said. "First her toes, then her legs. What's happening?"
Before Paintbrush Vixen could answer, a woman with short brown hair ran out of the nearby music shop. "My hummingbird!" she cried, holding a small bird cage. "Ruby was bright green this morning, but now she's completely gray!"
Other people began gathering around them. A koala wearing overalls pointed at the fountain in the square. "The water's losing its blue color too!"
Paintbrush Vixen looked around Art Zoo City. Everywhere she turned, colors were draining away like someone was stealing them right from under her nose.
