The Morning Watch

Ms. Crayon Ibex stood on the highest tower of her crayon fortress, watching the sunrise paint Zoo Valley City in golden hues. Her tan fur gleamed under her blue mask as she stretched her arms wide, greeting another beautiful morning.

"Time for my morning patrol," she said, adjusting her sleek blue-and-black supersuit. Her magic crayon materialized in her hand, glowing softly with rainbow colors.

She leaped from the tower, soaring gracefully over the bustling city below. Humans and humanoid animals filled the streets, heading to work and school. Mrs. Elephant ran her flower shop while Mr. Raccoon swept his bakery steps.

Everything looked perfectly normal until she noticed something odd. The red roses in Mrs. Elephant's window display seemed... duller than usual. She blinked and looked again.

"Strange," she murmured, hovering in midair. "Those roses are usually so vibrant."

A worried voice called from below. "Ms. Crayon Ibex! Something terrible is happening!"

She swooped down to find Mrs. Elephant wringing her trunk anxiously, staring at her once-brilliant flower display.

The Gray Awakening

Ms. Crayon Ibex landed softly beside Mrs. Elephant, her blue mask catching the morning light. "What's wrong?" she asked, studying the elephant's worried expression.

"Look at my roses!" Mrs. Elephant pointed her trunk at the display window. "Yesterday they were brilliant red. This morning I found them like this."

The roses had turned completely gray, as if someone had drained every drop of color from their petals. Ms. Crayon Ibex touched one gently with her gloved finger.

"That's impossible," she whispered.

A sharp cry echoed from down the street. Mr. Raccoon stood outside his bakery, staring at his once-golden bread loaves through the window. They too had turned a dull gray.

"My croissants!" he wailed. "They looked perfect last night!"

More shouts erupted across the city. A koala mother rushed past, clutching her frightened cubs. "The playground equipment!" she called out. "Everything's gray!"

Ms. Crayon Ibex's heart raced. She pulled out her magic crayon, but even its rainbow glow seemed dimmer than usual. Something was stealing the colors from Zoo Valley City, and it was spreading fast.
