The Morning Routine

Captain Paintbrush stretched his arms as the first rays of sunlight streamed through the tall windows of Paintbrush Fortress. The four paintbrush towers cast long shadows across Canvas Metropolis below. He grabbed his giant glowing blue paintbrush from its stand and twirled it expertly in his hand.

"Another beautiful day in the city," he said, adjusting his red sunglass goggles.

Through the window, he could see the bustling streets filled with humans, deer, lions, tigers, bears, goats, and sheep going about their morning routines. The vibrant colors of their clothes and fur created a rainbow tapestry against the city's painted buildings.

His phone buzzed with a text from Mayor Palette: "Morning patrol at 9 AM sharp. The citizens are counting on you!"

Captain Paintbrush grinned and headed toward the fortress door. He loved protecting his colorful home, though lately something felt different. The city seemed almost too quiet, too peaceful. He shook off the odd feeling and stepped outside, his blue boots clicking against the fortress steps.

The Gray Morning

Captain Paintbrush stepped outside the fortress and stopped dead in his tracks. The entire city had turned gray. Every building, every street, even the clothes of the humans and animals below—all drained of color.

"What happened?" he whispered, gripping his glowing blue paintbrush tighter.

A small hummingbird with gray feathers landed on his shoulder. "Captain! Thank goodness you're here. I'm Ruby—well, I used to be ruby red before this morning."

"Before what morning?" Captain Paintbrush asked.

"Around dawn, all the colors just vanished. Poof! Gone. The whole city went gray in seconds."

Captain Paintbrush's phone buzzed. Mayor Palette's text read: "EMERGENCY! Colors stolen! Citizens panicking!"

Down below, a koala mother clutched her gray baby koalas close as they wandered the colorless streets, looking confused and frightened.

"We have to do something," Ruby chirped nervously.

Captain Paintbrush raised his paintbrush, expecting blue paint to flow out and restore the colors. Instead, only gray droplets fell from the brush.

"Even my magic is affected," he said, staring at the gray paint in disbelief.
