The Morning Call

Paintbrush Lioness stretched her golden arms as morning sunlight streamed through the tall windows of Paintbrush Fortress. The four massive paintbrush towers gleamed outside, their tips catching the light like beacons over Canvas Savannah City.

"Another beautiful day," she said to herself, adjusting her black and blue supersuit. Her purple mask sat perfectly across her feline features as she gazed out at the bustling city below.

Humans and humanoid lions moved through the colorful streets, their voices creating a cheerful hum that drifted up to the fortress. Market stalls displayed vibrant fruits, and artists painted murals on building walls with every shade imaginable.

Her communication device buzzed suddenly. Mayor Brushwick's worried voice crackled through the speaker.

"Paintbrush Lioness, we need you downtown immediately. Something strange is happening near the Art District. People are calling in reports of... well, you'll need to see it for yourself."

She frowned, her keen eyes scanning the horizon. In the distance, something looked different about the eastern section of the city.

"On my way, Mayor," she replied, her giant paintbrush materializing in her hand with a soft shimmer.

The Gray Zone

Paintbrush Lioness soared through the morning air, her giant paintbrush gleaming beside her as she flew toward the Art District. The wind rushed past her purple mask, and her golden fur caught the sunlight.

But as she approached the eastern section of the city, her keen eyes widened in shock. Below her, an entire block had turned completely gray. Buildings, trees, street lamps, even the people walking around—everything looked like an old black and white photograph.

She landed with a soft thud on the colorless pavement. A small elderly woman with silver hair approached her, wringing her hands nervously.

"Oh, Paintbrush Lioness! Thank goodness you're here," the woman said. "I'm Mrs. Inkwell, and I saw it happen with my own eyes. A strange figure with some kind of device sucked all the color right out of everything!"

Paintbrush Lioness knelt down and touched the gray sidewalk. It felt normal, but looked completely drained of life.

"Which direction did this figure go?" she asked.

Mrs. Inkwell pointed toward the market square. "That way, toward the old fountain. But be careful—whatever that device was, it worked fast!"
