Morning Alert

Crayon Paintbrush Armadillo stretched her armored limbs as morning sunlight streamed through the crystal windows of her dome headquarters. The two crayon towers gleamed red and yellow while the paintbrush towers sparkled silver in the desert light.

"Another beautiful day in Canvas Desert Metropolis," she said, adjusting her light blue mask.

Her communicator buzzed. "Emergency at Rainbow Plaza!" crackled the voice of Officer Martinez, a gecko with worried green scales. "The fountain... it's lost all its color!"

Crayon Paintbrush Armadillo's dark eyes widened. She grabbed her giant crayon and paintbrush, their familiar weight comforting in her gloved hands.

"On my way!" She burst through the dome's exit portal.

Racing through the city streets, she noticed something odd. A few shop windows looked duller than usual. The bright murals on the apartment buildings seemed faded.

At Rainbow Plaza, a crowd of humans, armadillos, and geckos gathered around what should have been a magnificent rainbow fountain. Instead, gray water trickled from colorless stone figures.

"This is impossible," whispered Mrs. Chen, an elderly human woman with silver hair.

The Spreading Gray

Crayon Paintbrush Armadillo studied the gray fountain, her dark eyes scanning every colorless stone. The crowd murmured nervously behind her.

"When did this happen?" she asked Officer Martinez.

The gecko officer flicked his green tongue anxiously. "Mrs. Chen called it in twenty minutes ago. She said it changed right before her eyes."

Mrs. Chen stepped forward, wrapping her cardigan tighter. "I was feeding the pigeons when the rainbow just... drained away like someone pulled a plug."

Suddenly, a high-pitched chirping echoed from above. A tiny hummingbird with emerald feathers zipped down, hovering frantically near Crayon Paintbrush Armadillo's mask.

"Please help!" the hummingbird squeaked in a voice like wind chimes. "My nest in Paintbrush Park—all the flowers lost their colors! My babies can't find food without the bright blooms to guide them!"

The armadillo superhero's stomach dropped. If the color drain was spreading to the park, this wasn't just one broken fountain.

"Show me," she said.

The hummingbird darted toward the park entrance. As they rushed through the streets, more gray patches appeared—stop signs fading to silver, yellow taxi cabs turning pale cream.

The whole city was losing its colors.
