Morning Rounds

Super Paintbrush Doe swooped through the morning sky above Canvas Metropolis, her red cape streaming behind her. The city sparkled below with its mix of towering glass buildings and quaint art studios where humans and deer-folk worked side by side.

"Another peaceful day," she said, adjusting her light blue mask as she landed gracefully on the roof of Solitude Art Gallery. The fortress's four paintbrush towers gleamed in the sunlight, their tips painted in brilliant blues and reds.

She pulled out her phone to check the morning news when something caught her eye. Mrs. Chen, the elderly human gallery owner, was standing in the courtyard below, staring at one of the outdoor murals with a puzzled expression.

Doe glided down to join her. "Good morning, Mrs. Chen. Is everything alright?"

The gray-haired woman adjusted her wire-rimmed glasses. "Oh, hello dear. It's probably nothing, but doesn't this mural look a bit... duller than yesterday?"

The Spreading Gray

Super Paintbrush Doe examined the mural more closely. The bright yellows in the sunflower field had faded to pale cream. The vibrant blues of the painted sky looked washed out.

"You're right," Doe said. "Something strange is happening."

Mrs. Chen pulled out her phone and showed Doe a photo from yesterday. "Look at this picture I took. The colors were much brighter then."

Before Doe could respond, her superhero communicator buzzed. Mayor Antler's voice crackled through the speaker.

"Emergency at Melody Music Shop downtown! The owner called about all his instruments losing their color. The red violin is now pink, and the golden trumpet looks silver!"

Doe's eyes widened. Two places losing color couldn't be a coincidence.

"I'll be right there," she said into the communicator.

Mrs. Chen grabbed her arm. "Wait! What if this is spreading? What if all the colors in Canvas Metropolis disappear?"

Doe felt a chill run down her spine. If someone was stealing colors from the entire city, this was bigger than she thought. She summoned her giant glowing blue paintbrush.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Chen. I'll figure this out."

She took off into the sky, her cape streaming behind her as she flew toward the music district.
