Morning Brushstrokes

Paintbrush Mother Goat stood on the highest balcony of Paintbrush Lodge, watching the sunrise paint the sky in brilliant oranges and pinks. Her seven kids bustled around below in the courtyard, their small magic paintbrushes creating tiny sparkles as they practiced their morning exercises.

"Mama, look what I can do!" called Rosie, the youngest, as she made a purple butterfly appear with her brush.

"Very good, dear," Mother Goat replied, adjusting her red kerchief. The paint splatters on her blue and black dress caught the morning light.

Something felt different today. The colors seemed... dimmer somehow. She blinked her bright eyes and looked again. The roses in the garden below appeared less vibrant than yesterday.

"Kids, gather around," she called down. "We need to talk."

The seven little goats—Rosie, Daisy, Lily, Poppy, Iris, Jasper, and Oak—scrambled up the spiral staircase, their hooves clicking on the painted steps.

"Is everything okay, Mama?" asked Jasper, noticing her concerned expression.

Mother Goat gazed across Canvas Fairy Tale Land, where fairy tale castles and modern buildings stood side by side. Something was definitely wrong with the colors today.

The Fading Springs

"Children, we need to investigate this immediately," Mother Goat announced, her voice firm but calm. "Split into two groups. Jasper, take Oak, Daisy, and Lily to check the northern gardens. The rest of you come with me to the Color Springs."

As the kids scattered, a shimmering hummingbird zipped through the lodge's main hall, its feathers flickering between brilliant emerald and dull gray.

"Wait!" called Rosie, pointing at the tiny bird. "Look at its colors!"

The hummingbird's gorgeous green was fading right before their eyes, leaving behind a sad, washed-out bird that could barely stay airborne.

Mother Goat's heart sank. This wasn't just about garden flowers anymore.

At the Color Springs, where rainbow waters usually bubbled up from deep underground, Poppy gasped. "Mama, the water looks like dish soap!"

The magical springs that fed color to all of Canvas Fairy Tale Land were turning gray and murky. Mother Goat dipped her giant blue paintbrush into the water and watched in horror as even its magical glow dimmed.

"Someone is stealing our colors," she whispered. "But who would do such a thing?"
