The Crayon Color Crisis
Listen to audiobook
The Morning Patrol
Ms. Crayon Gazelle soared high above Canvas Zoo Kingdom, her purple mask catching the morning sunlight. The wind rushed past her blue and black supersuit as she held her giant magic crayon firmly in her hoofed hands.
Below, the colorful cityscape sparkled with vibrant crayon buildings and cheerful citizens going about their daily routines. She spotted Mrs. Elephant washing her windows with bright yellow soap, while Mr. Bear swept his purple doorstep.
"Everything looks perfect today," she said to herself, performing a graceful loop in the sky.
Landing softly on the castle's highest crayon tower, she noticed something odd. A small patch of gray appeared on the red brick wall beside her. She blinked and looked again.
"That's strange," she muttered, touching the colorless spot with her hoof. "This wall was bright red yesterday."
The gray patch seemed to pulse slightly, growing just a tiny bit larger. Ms. Crayon Gazelle frowned and made a mental note to check on it later.
The Festival Fades
Ms. Crayon Gazelle decided to investigate the gray patch immediately. She flew down from the tower and landed in the castle courtyard, her hooves clicking on the crayon cobblestones.
"I need to check the whole kingdom," she said aloud, pulling out her smartphone to call the Canvas Zoo Emergency Hotline.
Before she could dial, a shrill voice echoed from the music festival grounds near the town square. "Help! Someone help us!"
Ms. Craelle zoomed toward the sound, her blue and black suit gleaming in the sunlight. She found Mrs. Hummingbird, a tiny green bird with iridescent feathers, hovering frantically above the festival stage.
"Ms. Crayon Gazelle!" Mrs. Hummingbird cried. "Look at the musicians!"
The entire brass band stood frozen on stage, their colorful uniforms slowly draining to dull gray. Their instruments turned from shiny gold to murky pewter. One by one, the musicians themselves began losing color, starting with their fingertips.
"It's spreading!" Mrs. Hummingbird squeaked. "First the stage decorations, then the instruments, now the people!"
Ms. Crayon Gazelle gripped her magic crayon tighter. The gray plague wasn't just affecting buildings—it was stealing color from everything, including the citizens of Canvas Zoo Kingdom.
