Morning Rituals

Artist Crayon Buck stood on the highest tower of AC Fortress, his orange cape fluttering in the morning breeze. The city of Canvas Metropolis stretched below him like a giant coloring book waiting to be filled.

"Another beautiful day to create art!" he said, adjusting his red sunglass goggles.

Buck pulled out his giant magic crayon, its rainbow surface gleaming in the sunlight. He pointed it toward the sky and concentrated. Usually, vibrant streams of color would burst forth, painting magnificent murals across the clouds.

But today, nothing happened.

Buck frowned and tried again. The crayon felt cold in his hands. He shook it, tapped it, even whispered encouraging words to it.

Still nothing.

"That's strange," he muttered, examining the crayon closely. It looked perfectly normal, but something was definitely wrong.

Down in the city plaza, colorful banners fluttered between buildings. The Canvas Metropolis Art Festival was only three days away, and everyone was counting on Buck's spectacular sky show to open the celebration.

Melody's Sound Check

Buck leaped down from the tower, his orange cape billowing behind him. He landed in the fortress courtyard where his friend Melody was setting up speakers for practice.

"Morning, Buck!" called the smart woman with short brown hair. She wore paint-splattered overalls and was connecting cables between colorful amplifiers. "Ready for some music while I test the sound system for the festival?"

"Actually, I need your help," Buck said, holding up his silent crayon. "Something's wrong with my magic crayon. It won't make any colors at all."

Melody stopped working and examined the rainbow-colored tool. She tapped it with her screwdriver, held it up to the light, and even tried drawing with it on a spare canvas.

Nothing happened.

"That's really strange," she said, frowning. "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

Buck stared at her. "It's a magic crayon, not a computer."

"Right, sorry." Melody grinned sheepishly. "But seriously, this is bad timing. The whole festival is counting on your opening show."

Just then, a hummingbird zipped into the courtyard, chirping frantically. It circled Buck's head three times before darting toward the city.
