The Morning Discovery

Lila woke up in her cozy Maple City apartment, stretching her arms above her head. The autumn sunlight streamed through her window, painting everything in warm golden hues. She padded to the bathroom for her morning routine.

"What the—" Lila gasped, staring at her reflection in the mirror.

Her usually flat stomach had a small, round bump. She pressed her hands against it, feeling something flutter inside. Her heart raced as she grabbed her phone and called Dr. Chen's office.

"I need an emergency appointment," she said, her voice shaking.

Two hours later, Dr. Chen's eyes widened as she looked at the ultrasound screen. "Lila, this is extraordinary. You're carrying twenty babies."

"Twenty?" Lila's voice cracked. "How is that even possible?"

"I've never seen anything like it," Dr. Chen admitted. "But they all look healthy. We need to monitor this very carefully."

As Lila walked home, she felt her belly expanding with each step.

The Growing Situation

By the time Lila reached her apartment building, her belly had grown to the size of a basketball. She squeezed through her front door sideways.

"This can't be happening," she muttered, looking down at her expanding middle.

Her phone buzzed with a text from her neighbor Mrs. Patel: "Saw you rushing out earlier, dear. Everything okay?"

Lila typed back quickly: "Actually, I could use some help. Do you know anything about pregnancy?"

Minutes later, Mrs. Patel knocked on her door. The elderly woman's eyes widened when she saw Lila's condition.

"My goodness! How far along are you?"

"About six hours," Lila said weakly.

Mrs. Patel adjusted her colorful shawl and pulled out her phone. "I know just the place. The Maple City Maternity Club downtown. They help women with unusual pregnancies."

As they waited for the taxi, Lila's belly grew another inch. Her favorite jeans split at the seams.

"Don't worry, sweet girl," Mrs. Patel said, patting Lila's shoulder. "They'll have clothes that fit and people who understand."

The taxi pulled up, and Lila wondered if she'd even fit through the door.
