Morning Routines

Atomic Crayon Doe stretched her arms wide in the morning sunlight streaming through the fortress windows. The teal towers of her home gleamed like giant crayons against the sky. She loved mornings in Scribble City.

"Time for power practice," she said, pulling on her blue and black supersuit.

In the training room, she summoned her giant magic teal crayon. It appeared in her hand, crackling with atomic light. She aimed at the practice targets.

"Crayon blast!" she called out.

Instead of her usual bright energy beam, long strands of yellow spaghetti shot from the crayon. They splattered against the wall with a wet splat.

Doe stared at the mess. "That's... not right."

She tried again. More spaghetti flew everywhere, covering the floor in noodles.

"What's happening to my powers?" she whispered.

Outside her window, something metallic glinted in the distance. A low humming sound drifted across the city.

The Gift Parade

The humming grew louder. Doe stepped onto her fortress balcony and gasped.

Silver robots marched down Main Street like a parade of tin soldiers. Their red eyes glowed as they knocked on doors. When a raccoon baker opened his shop, a robot handed him a glowing box.

"Attention citizens," the robot announced. "Please accept this gift from the Efficiency Corporation."

The baker took the box. His whiskers twitched once, then his eyes turned the same glowing red as the robot's. He nodded stiffly and went back inside.

More robots spread across the city, carrying identical boxes to every home and shop.

Doe's phone buzzed. She checked the text from her friend Maya, a young otter who ran the music shop: "Something weird is happening! The robots gave Dad a box and now he's acting strange. Help!"

Doe grabbed her giant crayon, but when she tried to fly, rainbow silly string shot from it instead of her usual energy boost. She tumbled back onto the balcony.

"My powers are completely broken," she said, watching more citizens accept the mysterious boxes below.
