The Glowing Marker Mystery
Listen to audiobook
Morning Preparations
Ms. Marker Axolotl stretched her arms as the morning sun filtered through the tall windows of her mansion. Her pink skin gleamed softly in the light, and her feathery gills fluttered as she yawned.
"Another beautiful day in Aquarium City," she said, walking to her window. Below, the bustling streets showed humans, axolotls, and geckos heading to work.
She reached for her giant glowing marker, which always rested on her nightstand. The moment her fingers touched it, something felt different. The marker pulsed with an unusual purple light instead of its normal bright neon glow.
"That's strange," she murmured, holding it up to examine it closer.
Suddenly, the marker began drawing in the air by itself. A shimmering line appeared, forming what looked like a tiny door floating in her bedroom.
Ms. Marker stepped back, her dark eyes widening. "What in the world?"
The floating door began to creak open slowly.
The Unexpected Visitor
A tiny blue creature tumbled through the floating door, no bigger than Ms. Marker's thumb. It looked like a miniature gecko with shimmering scales and worried golden eyes.
"Help me!" the creature squeaked in a voice like a bell. "The Ink Weavers are coming!"
Ms. Marker knelt down carefully. "Who are you? What's an Ink Weaver?"
"I'm Pip from the Drawing Dimension," the gecko said, panting. "Your marker opened a portal. The Ink Weavers want to steal all the creativity from your world. They're already sending scouts through other portals!"
Ms. Marker's marker pulsed brighter, drawing another door in the air. This one was larger and glowing red.
"That's not me doing it," she said, stepping back.
A mechanical whirring sound echoed from the new portal. Three small robot drones flew through, their scanner eyes sweeping the room. They spotted Ms. Marker and began beeping rapidly.
"Creativity source detected," one drone announced in a flat voice. "Beginning extraction protocol."
The drones fired thin silver beams at her marker. Ms. Marker dodged, grabbing Pip protectively.
